Description
Aromatic and flavourful Australian grown vanilla pods – straight from our vanilla plantation on the Atherton Tablelands. Good quality 10+cm long, moist pods full of flavour and aroma. Sweet and savory dishes alike will be sure to delight when you add some local Australian grown vanilla bean pods.
- B-grade pods weigh between 2-5g. (average 35-40 pods/100g)
- Perfect for making Vanilla Ice Cream and all your baked creations.
Our B-grade pods are all pods that are too good to be C-grade (curly, short, small, thin, split or over-dried) but not good enough to be A-grade. So two B-grade pods can be VERY different. That’s why we only sell them in grams, NOT individually.
A-grade pods need to tick EVERY and ALL of the following boxes:
- 15+ cm long
- Straight
- Have a descent and relatively even thickness (minimum 0.50cm diameter)
- No scars
- No splits
- Moisture content of ~25-30%
So a B-grade pod CAN be a wonderful, fat, 22cm long pod that didn’t quite qualify as an A-grade:
It’s a little bit too dry (20%moisture content), have a scar on it, slightly curved etc etc etc.
It can also be 10cm long with 20% moisture content.
Again, that’s why we only sell them in grams, NOT individually.
So, if you prefer every pod to be almost identical, have a look at our A-grade pods.
Vanilla Tip:
- Don’t trow your used pod! Rinse, pad it dry and add to your sugar jar to make vanilla sugar or use it to make your own vanilla extract.
- To make Single Fold vanilla extract, add 50g of split B grade pods to 500ml alcohol (your preferred rum or vodka).
Store your pods in an airtight container with as little excess air as possible. Don’t refrigerate them, just keep an eye on them and give them a fresh breath of air every now and then. They will keep for at least a couple of years – if you can resist using them for that long!!
